Tom Archer, React & Frontend Developer

Data-heavy, accessible React interfaces for Britain’s energy industry. Lately, AI and automation tools too.

Profile

React developer behind energy-industry platforms used by Ofgem, government, and Britain's electricity network operators. I've led frontend development on a national energy-data insights platform for three years, alongside interactive maps of energy assets and grid infrastructure, and a government claims portal.

I have almost four years' experience at a digital marketing agency and six years total in frontend development roles, and I'm entirely self-taught. More recently I've been building AI and automation tools with n8n, Power Automate and LLM APIs.

Selected projects

SEO/GEO Audit Engine

A solo-built pipeline that audits local businesses for search and AI visibility: crawlability, content quality, and how they appear in Perplexity, Gemini and OpenAI answers. Live-tested on a real client site. I redesigned the scoring after showing a 13-point swing was statistical noise, and fixed a silent timeout that let reports claim coverage they didn't have.

  • n8n
  • LLM APIs

Self-hosted AI Agent Platform

A Dockerised AI agent setup on a Hetzner server: an orchestrator I message on Telegram, plus coding workers that push to GitHub. I handle upgrades, access control and least-privilege tokens myself, and keep numbered runbooks for every change.

Experience & trajectory

  1. — Present

    React Developer

    Xanda — London

I build React front ends for energy-industry, regtech and agency clients, alongside automation and AI systems, from scoping and estimates through to testing, deployment and support.

Lead frontend developer for three years on a national insights platform used by Ofgem and government, drawing on data from every electricity smart meter installed in Britain, 83m+ supplier switches and 76bn+ half-hourly renewable generation readings. Rebuilt the main dashboard from the ground up as a customisable widget layout, with user-configurable tiles and fully responsive Highcharts visualisations across multiple datasets. Played a key role in building the admin portal, including a custom WYSIWYG text editor.

Rebuilt a mapping platform for Britain’s electricity network operators from the ground up in two weeks, replacing an earlier supplier’s proof of concept. Built interactive maps of energy assets and grid infrastructure with Mapbox, later adapted into a simplified, public-facing tool shortlisted for BI Solution of the Year at the British Data Awards 2026.

One of two frontend developers, working alongside a backend developer, on the claims portal for a government compensation scheme for energy-intensive industries. Built to WCAG 2.2 AA standard, with Microsoft Entra ID single sign-on. Companies register, submit quarterly claims with evidence and manage corrections.

Alongside this, I built key parts of the agency’s own KYC and AML onboarding product, now used by a UK mobile brand. This included AI identity liveness checks with Amazon Rekognition and a multi-step onboarding form with Loqate address lookup and phone validation.

I also build automation and AI pipelines in n8n and Power Automate, including an email-to-proposal pipeline for an insurance broker, a lead-sourcing system that has processed nearly 30,000 leads with a 0.03% failure rate, daily AI-generated ad reports across Google and Meta, and an LLM security review of every code push for business-critical repos.

    Web Support Analyst

    Q4 Inc. — London

My role at Q4 was primarily focused around delivering time-sensitive content updates for clients' investor facing websites. These updates ranged from adding events via Q4's purpose-built CMS, modifying existing widgets built with jQuery, or adjusting the styling of navigation elements using HTML & CSS. Whilst technical skills are of the utmost importance, it was also essential to maintain a clear, concise, and professional tone during all email & telephone correspondence; also ensuring that I break down any technical issues in an easily digestible way for people of varying technical capabilities.

    Customer Advisor

    EE Ltd. — London

Working at EE was a great fit for me, with years of customer facing roles and a natural desire to learn about upcoming technologies and products, this translated into me easily being able to build rapport with my customers and make them feel comfortable.

In turn, I consistently achieved 100% feedback from our NPS system for my customer service.

    Travelling

    Southeast Asia & Australasia

Spent this time honeymooning with my wife; with a brief stint living in New Zealand.
